My yoga teacher explains, “ It is through the trying, rather than the mastery of the pose that you really build the muscle and gain flexibility and strength.”
On some days, this concept is a hard fit while on other days, it settles on me like a familiar blanket. I embrace this philosophy daily; as I practice both yoga poses and life “poses,” as a mother turned empty nester, wife and partner, sibling, one-time daughter, friend, golfer, Special Ed teacher, Life Coach, neighbor, consumer, and citizen of the world.
I remind myself daily that it is in the trying, the intention of something a little better, that I edge toward that point of greater mastery. I now know that the point is not a fixed place. Nor would I want it to be. I now know that it takes mindfulness to actively choose the way I want to experience my life. I also know that I can’t do it alone. What I really now know is that I ain’t ever gonna be perfect at it, but I sure want to have fun trying!
AND, I want to travel that road as a Life Coach, walking with other people as they make their way toward a life of their choosing.
